I find it hard to compare Jim Jones to the Jehovah's Witnesses.
It's like comparing Obama to Hitler. You can say it. But just because you hate Obama doesn't make him Hitler.
"...when our own thoughts are forbidden, when our questions are not allowed and our doubts are punished; when contacts & friendships outside of the organisation are censored, we are being abused for an end that never justifies its means.
when our heart aches knowing we have made friendships and secret attachments that will be forever forbidden if we leave, we are in danger.
when we consider staying in a group because we cannot bear the loss, disappointment and sorrow our leaving will cause for ourselves and those we have come to love, we are in a cult.

special pioneers let go.
bethel workers laid off.
construction halts, what's next?
Oh brother.
This thread is like Republicans asking: what if we really find Obama was born in Kenya? It isn't going to happen.
They are not going bankrupt. It's wishful thinking. You might as well ask: what if we can all walk on the Sun tomorrow?
jehovah`s witnesses place great emphasis on the importance of god`s name as jehovah .so much so that they are often accused by christendom`s religions as substituting jehovah for christ.. the old testament ( hebrew scriptures identify god as the tetragrammaton four hebrew consanants yhwh and not jhvh.
as mistakenly believed by a 13th century spanish monk .. modern scholars including the j.w.`s agree that the more accurate pronunciation of gods name would be more nearer to yahweh than the name jehovah .. so why do j.w.`s insist on the name ?
jehovah ?
They are right Simon. "Jehovah" is the English term for God's name. It was for hundreds of years before JW's. It is just out of fashion now.
i notice that while a search of the wt library reveals many references to homosexuals, there are few references to lesbians.. does the wts include women when it uses the term homosexual?.
when discussing masturbation, does it mention both sexes?.
i am asking out of pure ignorance, seeking clarification.. my only comment is that religion of every shade has difficulty with the subject of sexual activity, as if it were something that is not part of nature.. doug.

brian oatman.
Any human to do this to any other human is disgusting. The man is a sicko and belongs in jail.
End of conversation.
according to one source on a western european 'apostate' website, the org's plan is to abandon the name "jehovah's witnesses" in the future, and replace it with "worshippers of jehovah.".

the gist of the account appears to be a repeat of rutherford's re-branding and debunking of old predictions made by the previous shower of fakers.
Changing your name doesn't disconnect you from the Watchtower, the past, or anything else legally and their legal department would know that so they would not make a name change so it distances them from the Watchtower. It doesn't. That's not how things work in the legal system.
This is one of those crazy rumors that never materialize. Often people here try to rationalize what the organization would do using their own train-of-thought. You have to think like a JW to know what they would do. And anything that came out of a multiple translation conversation is not at all reliable.
how many of you would return to jehovah, wt?
better yet, how many jws would walk???.
i do believe it will happen one day....
Unfortunately, if there was a Nuclear War most people would wind up dead. It would be very unlikely that 1/3 of the population would die. If there is a Nuclear War one day we're all dead.
After 9/11 there was a lot of interest and if you went door-to-door right after 9/11 people would not let you go. They were searching for answers. Shocked. Lost.
jehovahs people do not beg for money.
[...] we have never considered it proper to solicit money for the lords cause, after the common custom .
it is our judgment that money raised by the various begging devices in the name of our lord is offensive, unacceptable to him, and does not bring his blessing either upon the givers or the work accomplished.
But did you ever feel coerced? I gave what I wanted when I wanted. I never felt pressured to do something I didn't want to do. That was just my experience.

Smiddy,
I don't understand why ex-JW's get so hung up on this.
"Jehovah" is the universal English term for God's name. It isn't a JW thing. George Washington used it. Thomas Jefferson used it. Abraham Lincoln used it. Herman Melville used it. Ernest Hemmingway used it. For goodness sake, Steven Spielberg even used it in the 3rd Indiana Jones movie.
If you go and find most English Bibles that pre-date WWII you find the term Jehovah used as God's name. 17th, 18th, and 19th Century English and America literature is full of the use of Jehovah. It is just an English reference to God's name. I've never thought it had anything to do with JW's, especially when I read "Jehovah" in use in American literature and American history growing up over and over and over.
The colonists used the term Jehovah for God's name. That was 400 years ago in America. There were no JW's then.
oxford university press daily offers thoughts on many serious topics.
in this life it examines the possibilities of a 'non-created' beginning of life.. the blog post commences:.
quote,"news broke in july 2015 that the rosetta missions philae lander had discovered 16 carbon and nitrogen-rich organic compounds on comet 67p/churyumov-gerasimenko.
Sorry, all of these ideas are just theories. When they can replicate something scientifically then there would be a real news story. There are no examples of life starting on its own anywhere in science so the onus is on science to prove it. Otherwise, it's just, don't hit me for saying this, science ... fiction ...
